Sales, returns and event cancellations
Last updated: 1 October 2026
These terms explain your rights when you buy merchandise or book one of our events through oudebateclub.com or our linked booking pages.
They cover purchases made mainly for personal use. Separate donations, memberships, business purchases and purchases of digital content are not covered here.
For help, email us about an order or event. Include your order or booking reference if you have it
Your refund options at a glance
What has happened
What you can do
You have changed your mind about standard merchandise bought online
Tell us you want to cancel within 14 days after the day you receive it. You then have another 14 days to return it.
Your merchandise is faulty, damaged or different from its description
Contact us for a refund, repair or replacement, depending on the circumstances. Your rights continue after the first 30 days.
You want to cancel a paid event booking
We give a full refund if you cancel at least 7 days before the advertised start time. Your legal cancellation rights may give you additional protection.
We cancel, postpone or significantly change a paid event
You can receive a full refund. Accepting a replacement event, new date or credit is optional.
Your legal rights apply alongside these terms.
Who you are buying from
Your seller and event organiser is Open Debate Community Interest Company, known as Open Debate CIC.
We are registered in England and Wales. Our company number is 16236970.
Printful makes and sends our merchandise. We remain responsible for your purchase. Contact us if something goes wrong: you do not have to make a claim against Printful or a courier.
We use Luma for event bookings. Online events use Zoom or the meeting platform named on the event page.
If another organisation is selling a product or organising an event, the booking page will identify it and explain which terms apply before you pay.
Prices and confirmation
The product or event page explains what you are buying.
Advertised event prices include compulsory booking charges. Before you pay, we show the total price, including applicable taxes and delivery charges. We will only charge for optional extras if you agree to them.
Check your address, product choice and booking details before paying.
We accept your order or booking when we send its confirmation email. If we cannot provide an item or event you have paid for, we will contact you and refund the amount paid for it.
The terms supplied when you buy apply to your purchase. An event page may offer more generous refund terms, but it cannot reduce your legal rights or the promises on this page.
Returning merchandise because you have changed your mind
When you can cancel
For standard merchandise bought online, you can cancel without giving a reason.
You can cancel from the time you order. Your cancellation period ends 14 days after the day you receive the goods.
If one order arrives in separate parcels, the period runs from the day after you receive the last item.
Printing or making a standard item after you order it does not, by itself, make it personalised or remove your cancellation right.
How to cancel and return an item
Email or write to us with a clear statement that you want to cancel.
Return the goods without unnecessary delay and within 14 days after the day you told us.
Keep proof that you sent them back.
You can use the cancellation form at the end of this page. You do not need to use it, give a reason or obtain our approval to cancel.
Email us for return instructions. Unless we give you another suitable return address, use the address in the Contact us section below.
Do not send goods to Printful without our instructions. Our response time will not shorten your cancellation or return period.
If production has not started, we will try to stop the order. If it has started, you can still use your cancellation right for standard merchandise, but you may need to return the goods after delivery.
Return postage and condition
You pay the direct return postage if you have changed your mind.
We pay reasonable return costs if the goods are faulty, damaged, incorrect or different from their description.
You can inspect goods as you would in a shop. Please pack them securely for return. We do not generally require unopened packaging.
We may deduct an amount for a loss of value caused by handling beyond what was needed to inspect the goods, where the law allows this. We do not charge a restocking fee.
What we refund
We refund the price of the returned goods.
If you cancel the whole order, we also refund the cost of our least expensive standard delivery option. We do not have to refund the extra amount you paid for premium delivery.
If you cancel part of an order, we refund any delivery charge that relates only to the cancelled items.
We issue your refund without unnecessary delay and within 14 days of:
receiving the goods back; or
receiving evidence that you sent them back, if that happens first.
If no goods need to be returned, we refund within 14 days of your cancellation notice.
We use your original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise. We do not charge a refund fee.
Personalised products and exchanges
A product genuinely made to your specifications or clearly personalised may be excluded from the usual change-of-mind cancellation right. This could include an item bearing a name or design you supply.
We will explain any exclusion before you buy.
Choosing a standard club design, colour or size does not automatically make an item personalised.
Your rights for faulty, incorrect or misdescribed goods still apply to personalised products.
We do not offer a separate guaranteed exchange service if you choose the wrong size or colour. For standard online purchases, you can use your cancellation right and place a new order.
If we send a different size, colour or item from the one you ordered, contact us. We will put it right at our cost.
Faulty, damaged or incorrect merchandise
Goods must be of satisfactory quality, suitable for their purpose and match their description.
Tell us as soon as you discover a problem. Please include:
your order reference or other proof of purchase
a description of the problem
photographs, if you can provide them
If photographs are difficult for you, contact us so we can agree another way to assess the problem.
You normally have the right to reject faulty or misdescribed goods within 30 days after delivery and receive a full refund. You can ask for a repair or replacement instead.
After that period, repair or replacement is normally the first remedy. A refund or price reduction may follow if repair or replacement is unavailable, unsuccessful or cannot be provided within a reasonable time without significant inconvenience.
Your rights do not end after 30 days.
Before returning a faulty item, contact us so we can explain whether a return is needed and arrange postage or collection.
Once we agree that a refund is due, we issue it without unnecessary delay and within 14 days.
Delivery and missing parcels
We deliver to the destinations available at checkout. We show production and delivery information before you pay.
Unless we agree a different delivery period with you, we deliver without unnecessary delay and within 30 days of accepting your order. Items may arrive in separate parcels.
Late or missing deliveries
Contact us if your order is late or a parcel is missing.
If we miss an essential agreed delivery date, or refuse to deliver, you may be entitled to end the contract immediately.
In other cases, you can give us a reasonable extra delivery period. If we still do not deliver, you can end the contract and receive any refund due without unnecessary delay.
We are responsible for the goods until you, or someone you nominate, receives them. An exception applies if you independently arrange a carrier we did not offer.
A tracking message saying “delivered” does not, by itself, settle a dispute about whether you received the goods.
Incorrect addresses
If an incorrect address you supplied causes a failed delivery, we may ask you to pay the reasonable additional delivery cost. We will explain the charge and obtain your agreement first.
We cover redelivery costs caused by our error or our delivery provider’s error. Your cancellation rights still apply.
Overseas deliveries
Before you buy, we will explain any customs charges or import obligations you must meet.
Any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live continue to apply.
If you cancel an event booking
For a free event, please cancel your registration if you cannot attend. This allows someone else to take your place.
Paid events
We give a full refund if you cancel at least 7 days before the advertised start time.
This is an additional promise. It does not replace any legal cancellation rights you have.
If you cancel less than 7 days before the start, or do not attend, we may deduct a reasonable amount for the direct financial loss your cancellation or non-attendance causes.
We will:
take reasonable steps to reduce that loss
account for costs we save and any resale of your place
explain any deduction
refund the balance
We will not retain more than the booking price. You can ask us to consider exceptional circumstances.
We issue any refund due under this promise within 14 days of your cancellation notice. If a later resale reduces our loss, we reassess the deduction and issue any further refund within 14 days of the event.
Transferring a place
If you want someone else to use your place, contact us before the event.
Where transfers are available, we will check any participation requirements and update the booking. Do not share private joining links instead of arranging a transfer.
Your 14-day cancellation right for eligible workshops
Some online service bookings have a cooling-off period. This is a period when you can cancel without giving a reason.
For eligible bookings, you have 14 days to cancel. The period starts the day after we confirm your booking.
Paid educational workshops and training have this protection unless a lawful exception applies.
Some leisure events on a specific date are excluded from this legal cancellation right. We will tell you before payment if this exception applies. Having a fixed date does not automatically make every workshop exempt.
Our seven-day event refund promise still applies.
Workshops starting within those 14 days
If an eligible workshop starts during your cooling-off period, we will ask you to:
expressly request that it starts during that period
acknowledge that your legal cancellation right ends once we have provided the whole service you booked
If you cancel after the service starts, you may have to pay a proportionate amount for what we have already provided. This only applies where we have met the legal requirements for the early start and explained the charge.
Starting a workshop does not, by itself, end your cancellation right.
For a valid cancellation under these rules, we issue any refund due without unnecessary delay and within 14 days of receiving your notice. You do not have to accept a voucher instead.
If we cancel, postpone or significantly change an event
If we cancel
We refund the full amount you paid for the booking, including compulsory booking charges made as part of our sale.
This applies even if the cancellation is caused by circumstances beyond our control.
We issue the refund within 14 days of notifying you.
If we postpone or significantly change the event
You can choose to:
attend on the changed terms; or
receive a full refund
A significant change may include:
moving the event to another date
changing between online and in-person delivery
substantially changing the venue location
losing a specifically advertised main speaker where this materially changes the event you booked
Minor programme changes do not automatically qualify for a full refund. Your legal rights still apply.
We will contact you promptly using your booking details. We will not treat silence as agreement to a new date or changed event.
Unless you choose to transfer your booking, we refund it within 14 days of notifying you of the change.
Alternative events, vouchers and credits are optional.
Taking part in events
The event page explains the platform, timing and any device or internet requirements.
Check your joining details before the event. Contact us if you need an accessible way to take part.
If a problem with our event or delivery platform prevents you from taking part in a substantial part of it, we will offer an appropriate remedy. This may be an agreed repeat session or a full or partial refund.
Your legal rights to a service provided with reasonable care and skill continue to apply. These may include having the service provided again or receiving a price reduction.
If a legal price reduction means a refund is due, we issue it without unnecessary delay and within 14 days of agreeing your entitlement.
If the problem is solely with your device or connection, our ordinary customer cancellation rules apply. We will still consider exceptional circumstances.
Conduct and safety
Any age or other participation requirements appear on the event page.
You must follow the conduct and safeguarding rules provided for the event.
We may refuse admission or remove someone where reasonably necessary to address a serious breach or protect safety. We will explain the decision where appropriate and provide a review route.
We assess any refund fairly under these terms and the law. Removal does not automatically mean losing the full booking price.
How refunds are paid
We use the original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise.
We do not charge a fee for a statutory refund — a refund you are entitled to by law.
Your bank may take additional time to show a payment after we issue it. Contact us if your refund has not arrived.
You do not have to accept an alternative event, voucher or credit where you are entitled to a refund.
Complaints
Email us about a sales or event complaint. Use the subject line Sales or event complaint.
We aim to:
acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days
give a substantive response within 20 working days
We will explain any delay. These response targets do not extend a legal refund deadline.
If you disagree with the outcome, ask for a review by a director who was not involved in the original decision, where available. If this is not possible, we will explain the alternative review arrangement.
You can seek independent consumer advice or use any legal remedy available to you.
Your legal rights and personal information
These terms do not reduce the rights the law gives you.
We remain responsible for losses that the law requires us to meet. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
The law of England and Wales applies, subject to mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. You retain any right to use the courts available to you under consumer law.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your order and booking information.
