Lead Executive Officer

Role type: Elected Executive Officer
Accountable to: Society Committee and Voting Members
Main focus: Strategy, partnerships and financial sustainability


What you will do

You will provide strategic and outward-facing leadership for the Club.

You will:

  • work with the Society Committee to set priorities

  • make sure our activities support our aims and community benefit

  • represent the Club to Open SU, funders, sponsors, partners and other organisations where authorised

  • build relationships that support our work

  • identify suitable funding, sponsorship and income opportunities

  • support the Club to develop a sustainable operating model

  • coordinate the work of the Executive Officers

  • make sure agreed actions are followed up

  • delegate defined tasks and review progress

  • contribute to the Club’s annual report

  • chair a meeting when the Second Executive Officer is unavailable or has a conflict of interest

What you can decide

You may represent the Club within the authority agreed by the Society Committee.

Call an Extraordinary General Meeting, which is a formal meeting held between Annual General Meetings to consider a specific or urgent issue.

You must get the required approval before you:

  • enter into a contract

  • accept a grant or sponsorship obligation

  • approve spending

  • create a financial or legal commitment

  • make a commitment on behalf of Open Debate CIC

You will not have sole control over Club funds. You must declare any conflict of interest and take no part in a decision where you are conflicted.
